小松菜できた！ Komatsuna

今年も沢山できました！ こまつな、美味しいよ〜。
小松菜って、むちゃくちゃ早くできるんですよね。２０日位かな。最近雨が多いので、育つ育つ。
嬉しい！ 今日、初収穫です。ほうれん草ももうすぐ収穫できそうだし、にんじんも、ジワジワと育ってます。
去年は、雨不足で、野菜があんまり作れませんでしたが、今年は、雨が多いので、良い年になりそうです。
Wow! This year, I am getting great Komatsuna (Japanese greens) harvest because of the rains.
I love growing Komatsuna because it grows so fast like only 20 days. Adding these rains lately, it's been wonderful.
Maybe this year will be great year for my garden despite of last year's lack of rain.
Coming up are spinach and carrots although carrots are very very slow growing.

遂にキュウリの収穫！やった〜。種無しキュウリ。
でも、びっくり。中に種あった！
Finally, I picked some cucumbers! They said they are "burpless" meaning seedless.
But no surprise, there were some seeds in them.

干ばつ状況のアトランタ、ここ数日毎日、午後に雨が降っていま〜す。そのせいか、キュウリが大成長しているではありませんか！
もうすぐ収穫かな〜？
It's been dry here in Atlanta but recently we are getting some showers. Cucumbers love water so they are growing crazy now.
Is it ready yet?

ちなみに、これは実家のズッキーニ。お母さんが２月にアメリカに来た時に買ってかえった種です。
Picture below is my parent's zucchini. My mom bought these seeds here in America when she came to visit us in February.

もうすぐ収穫！

夏のお野菜が着々と、できています！
今年は、丸い小さいズッキーニ。もう、これぐらいでとった方が良いのかな？
去年、人気だったモッロコ豆を又植えました。これは、もうちょっと待たないといけないな。
あと、キュウリ、トマトとトウモロコシも植えてますが、植えたのが遅かったので、まだまだ小さいです。
Summer veggies are on the way!
This year, I planted small ball zucchini. I am not sure if I should pick it now or wait a bit.
Below picture is morroco beans which Carlton loved last year. It's almost ready but not yet. It's very yammy.
I also planted cucumbers, tomatos and corn but I started late so they are still small but they sure are growing fast!

初チューリップ My first tulips

咲いた咲いた！ 初めて植えたチューリップが咲きました。秋に、道路からガレージまでの庭にそって一列に沢山植えたんです。
春が来ましたね〜。これから、アトランタは一気に夏になるんだよね〜。
残念なのは、一気に全部咲いてくれない！ ちょこちょこと、咲いていて、バランスが悪い！ :(
My tulips bloomed! I planted along side of entrance from the road last fall. They all came up nicely.
It really tells you that spring is here! That means summer will be here soon.
Only thing though, not all of them are blooming at the same time. It's not consistent. :(

来年は大きくなります様に！
How pathetic my asparagus look! This is first year we got some asparagus at our garden. Hopefully next year will be good.

大豊作？ The best harvest of 2006?

うちのガーデンで、っと言いたい所ですが、残念ながら、違います。旦那の両親の家からもらって来た大豊作です。
なぜ、彼らのガーデンでは、こんなに沢山できるのでしょう？
＊トマトが大嫌い
＊農薬
そして、最大の理由は、
＊ビービーガンで、リスを撃ち殺しています。
これ、本当です。彼らはべつに悪い人じゃーないんです。リスって、アメリカ南部地方では最大の敵なんです。まあ、ちょっと可愛いネズミの様な。。天井に上がっては、大切な物をカリカリかんだり、パーティーを開いたり、子供を産んだり。トマトも収穫時期になると、一口ぱっくり食べて捨てたり。
うちのガーデンで、できる９０パーセントのトマトは、彼らに食べられています。（涙） でも、殺すだけの勇気はないけど。
I would really love to say this is the best harvest of 2006 at my garden! But NO.... These came from Carlton's parents' garden. There are a few things they do better than our garden. But the key is Carlton's dad absolutely hates eating tomatoes so there are plently of tomatoes left over. Another thing is they use bug spray.
Oh, other very important thing... he shoot squirrels with BB gun. That helps a lots, I think, since 90% of my tomatoes have been destroyed by them. I literary have to pick green tomatoes in order to get it before squirrels get it.

ミニ人参じゃーぁない人参 Carrots look like baby carrots but not

そうなのよ。ミニじゃないはずなのに、ミニなんです。
２月にお母さんと妹が植えたんで、もう、７ヶ月以上たっているのに。。。おかしぃーなぁー。
植えた後に気がついたのですが、場所があんまり日があたらない場所だったからかなぁ〜？

Really, they are regular carrots but they look like baby carrots!
What's wrong with them?? It's been well over 7 months since my mom and sister planted back in February. It's very strange.
I realized after planting, the location does not get a lots of sun... so maybe that is why--?

トマトの害虫 Tomato preditor

トマトを沢山作って、トマトス−プやスパゲテイーなどを作ろうと思ったのですが、ハッキリ言って、全くできていない。
害虫にやられているんです。それも、すごいヤツに！ 右の写真から探せる、その害虫？
茎以外の全てを食べちゃうんです。可愛そうなトマトちゃんは、茎だけ残って、枯れちゃうんです。
もう、最悪。
無農薬ガーデンは本当に難しい！
っで、今日見つけたヤツの中に、白いものをいっぱい付けているヤツがいた。写真を撮っておけば良かったのですが、白い物は、赤ちゃんだろうっと思って、すぐに殺したんです。（まあ、見つけたヤツは全て殺すのですが。）
ところが。。。。
なんとハチが、この虫の中に卵を産んでいて、白いのは、ハチの赤ちゃんたち！ どんどん、それが増えて、全ての害虫を殺すので、殺しちゃーいかん！って、ウェブサイトに書いてあるじゃんか！ 最悪！ ヤッてしまった！
ハチさん、ごめんなさい。もうしませんので、どんどん卵を植え付けて下さい！！！
なんだか、ほとんどホラー映画状況じゃんか！
ちなみにこの害虫、スズメガの幼虫らしい。
I was hoping to make a lots tomato this year. But out come was really really bad.
Most of my tomato plants were eaten by this nasty worms. Can you find the worn in above picture? It's really hard to find one.
Anyhow, this worms will eat everything except for the stem. So tomato plant just die.
It's just horrible. Organic gardening is really tough.
Today, I even found nastier one than usual. This thing carried may white eggs. Small white eggs are hanging from the body. I thought, "Gross! This one carrying eggs! Sick!" So I killed it quickly. (Altho, I kill them all anyway if I find them.)
BUT .....
According to the website, apparently this worm was infected with wasp's eggs. What I saw was cocoons! They will eventually kill all the warms! Poopy! What did I do??
Mrs. Wasp, please come back again!
Geez, this really sounds like horror movies.
Anyhow, this worm is called Tomato Hornworm. FYI.
